There are three NHS hospitals in Caithness. The main hospital, Caithness General Hospital, serves Caithness and North Sutherland. Located in Wick, it provides a broad range of services including accident and emergency; general surgery; general medicine; Macmillan nursing and palliative care; obstetrics and gynaecology services and theatre. The hospital also has a renal unit. A range of associated services and clinics are also provided.
The Dunbar Hospital, located in Thurso, is a nurse-led minor injuries / minor ailments unit. A range of other services is provided at this location which includes specialist out-patient clinics, x-rays and minor operations.
Wick Town and County Hospital provides an assessment unit for patients with cognitive and memory problems; palliative care and care for the frail elderly and young disabled.
