Based in Dunbeath, Caithness, Whittles Publishing Ltd was incorporated in 2003 by Dr Keith Whittles, as a specialised book publisher.
After making this initial change from sole trader to limited company, Whittles Publishing made the transition from an editing and publishing service with occasional production of books to a planned programme of new title acquisitions and growth, supported by a knowledgeable shareholder base.
In 2006, Whittles expanded their operations taking on a production editor and have since grown to further employ three full-time and one part-time staff, developing an international reputation as a publisher of quality books and, more recently, digital publications.
At present, the company have established a firm base in the North American market, with assistance from local business support organisation, the North Highland Regeneration Fund.
Whittles Publishing continues to sell globally, expanding in to new and existing markets, most recently developing new avenues of distribution within the realms digital publication with a range of e-books and e-libraries.
Particularly regarded for their technical books, Whittles Publishing has won both the inaugural and second Karl Kraus Medal, awarded by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, staving off competition from global publishers with turnovers in excess of £1 billion.
Alongside their portfolio of technical books, Whittles also specialise in maritime, diving, military history, nature and exploration publications. The publishers are currently looking to develop further lists in architecture and landscape, manufacturing and materials technology, and fuel and energy science.
