This is an exciting time for tourism in Caithness and North Sutherland.

Plans to develop the iconic destination of John O’Groats into a high quality tourist travel destination – our top priority – are well advanced. The vision is to transform John o’Groats into a destination of choice for visitors and enhance the visitor experience of the most northerly tip of the UK mainland.

See the development plans and the John o’Groats masterplan on the Highlands and Islands Enterprise website.

North Highland Tourism, meanwhile, is a destination management organisation that has been set up and endorsed by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay to develop the area’s considerable tourism assets and market the area. These assets include the late Queen Mother’s holiday home – the Castle of Mey – which is now a stunning visitor attraction providing a unique insight into the life of the royal family.
